AICA Adds Zoetis Genetic Testing Services for Charolais Breeders
Sep 23, 2026
The American-International Charolais Association (AICA) is now partnering with Zoetis for cattle DNA testing. This announcement provides Charolais producers with a new option for laboratory needs.
Incorporating genomic data with pedigree and performance records allows producers to make informed selection and breeding decisions when it matters most – earlier in the animal’s life.
“Genomic testing has become one of the most important tools available to seedstock producers as we work to accelerate genetic progress and provide commercial cattlemen with greater confidence in the genetics they purchase,” shares Brett Spader, Executive Vice President for AICA. “Adding Zoetis as a second genomic testing laboratory is an important step forward for our membership. It expands testing capability, creates greater flexibility and strengthens the infrastructure behind our genetic evaluation.”
The opportunity to provide additional testing and laboratory options to Charolais producers reflects Zoetis’ commitment to accelerating genetic progress in the cattle industry. This expansion grows AICAs commitment to “building a more resilient, competitive and producer-focused genomic program,” Spader shares. “As the value of efficiency, red meat yield, and other economically relevant traits continues to evolve, genomic testing will play an increasingly important role in identifying cattle that can move the industry forward.”
Partnering with Zoetis gives Charolais breeders access to multiple trusted laboratory partners while strengthening AICA’s ability to serve members, grow genomic adoption, and continue improving the value of Charolais genetics.
“Producers need testing they can trust and results they can act on,” says Jim Johnson, Strategic Account Manager for Zoetis. “This partnership supports that standard today and positions the Charolais community to benefit from continued innovation in genetic prediction and decision support.”
Getting started with DNA testing is as simple as collecting a DNA sample while routinely handling cattle. Collected samples are sent to Zoetis laboratories where genetic markers are analyzed, and genomic predictions are reported in less than five weeks. Requests to get started can be made through AICA’s Online Registry System or by contacting the registration department.
